We think its a Hawk, any prizes if we are right ??

No, not a hawk. It's actually a budgie. The zoom has distorted our size perspective.

My guess is an immature Cooper's Hawk (less likely) or a Red-tailed Hawk (more likely, as they nest on Fifth Ave).

Other birds of prey regularly sighted in Central Park:
Osprey
Bald Eagle
Northern Harrier (Marsh Hawk)
Sharp-shinned Hawk
Northern Goshawk
Red-shouldered Hawk
Broad-winged Hawk
Rough-legged Hawk
Golden Eagle
American Kestrel
Merlin
Peregrine Falcon

well who'd have known that there were so many ornithologists out there - it's getting very Bill Odie in here isn't it?

The idea of a sharp shinned hawk is one that amused me a great deal though - just a mental image I guess

A little internet image searching of your suggestions Irene and we think it's a Red-tailed Hawk... so you win the prize - all we need now is a prize/

How are things post superstar graduation?

Dammit. A galah or a sulphur-crested cockatoo were my next guesses.

My ex was/is a keen birdwatcher – guess some of it rubbed off on me.

Well done on your tick. Looking forward to seeing the others.

Re: post-graduation, I'm still on a high! I'll email ya...
