Back to a New York City that's starting a low simmer in the first sun of the season - 24C this weekend, 28C to start the week and firm in the knowledge that I'm about over all that is urban. That doesn't mean that I want a catalogue paint job porch (heaven forend) but a house, a car, a job - that doesn't seem an enormous amount to have as an ambition.
Anyway having done the gym this morning and too big a lunch an hour ago it feels as though it's about time I dragged an overheated dog around the park...

Do doctors graduate at a ceremony like ordinary scum? Isn't it called something like "silking"?
Of course traditionally speaking you graduate at the point when you are bashed on the head with a rolled up hat by the Rector, as punishment for any unobserved transgressions.
This light hearted gesture is of course an arse-baring insult to the catholic church [most ancient universities being presbyterian]as it is a mockery of priestly confession and absolution.
So congratulations from an old acquaintance of your partner; a thump on the head from a grinning old prof; and a furry hood that isn't colour fast in the wash.
